The Super Mario Galaxy Movie ha crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box officebecoming the first film of 2026 to reach that milestone.
The animated sequel to was produced by Universal Pictures, Nintendo e Illumination Studios. They are production cost was $110 million dollarsso the box office profitability is assured.
The previous film in the franchise, The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) revolutionized the box office, grossing $1.36 billion worldwide, and becoming the third highest-grossing animated film of all time in the global box office, behind Inside Out 2 ($1,698 million), and the absolute animated champion, Ne Zha 2 ($2,150 million). The film earned a net profit of $559 million after all subsequent revenues.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is positioned as the highest-grossing film of the year, closely followed by Michael from Lionsgate, Project Hail Mary from Amazon MGM Studios and The Devil Wears Prada 2 from Disney.
The theatrical run of the animated sequel is very close to concluding.
