Aleksandra Vrebalov "hold me, neighbor, in this storm"

Employing pre-recorded tapes, amplification and spectacular virtuosity, the Kronos Quartet have spent 40 years travelling the globe and experimenting with what it means to be a string quartet. This programme is classic Kronos, beginning with transformative Indian raga and ranging from ancient Serbia to modern-day New Zealand.

This quartet by Valentin Silvestrov, considered by Arvo Part to be the worlds "greatest living composer, leads into one of Kronos' signature works, WTC 9/11 by Stee Reich; and ....hold me, neigbour, in this storm....is one of their most recent commissions, fusing the modern string quartet with Orthodox plainchant and the instuments of the ancient Serbian poets.
