Jesus Christ Superstar

The Abbey Musical Theatre and the Regent on Broadway Promotions, who last year brought you 'MISS SAIGON' are now delighted to announce director Steven Sayer's new staging of the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice classic rock opera.
Jesus Christ Superstar chronicles the last days in the life of Jesus of Nazareth as seen through the eyes of his disciple, Judas Iscariot.
At the opening of the show, Judas agonises over his perception that Jesus' followers have become fanatical and unrealistic, hailing him as a god and twisting this words into monstrous prophecies. In Judas' mind, Jesus is only a man - a man with certain inconsistencies, as evidenced by his relationship with Mary Magdalene. As the crowds in the street grow more and more out of control, the rift between Jesus and Judas grows.
A brillant cast of fifty two actors, singers and dancers together with a full pit Orchestra lead by Barry Jones have been assembled.
Peter Flynn stars as Jesus, Anna Krakosky as Mary and Andrew Jamieson as Judas.

If you only see one musical production this year make sure it's JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR!

DIE FLEDERMAUS

Die Fledermaus is the younger Johann Strauss''s most celebrated comic opera. The Overture is one of the most popular ever written and audiences will recognise much of the music, including the famed "Czardas" aria and maid Adele''s "Laughing Song."

Die Fledermaus is German for The Bat, and refers to a trick played previously on a gentleman abandoned intoxicated to wake up in the town square in fancy dress as a bat, to general ridicule. The Batman (Dr Falke) plans his clever revenge on Herr von Eisenstein by means which unfold hilariously as the opera proceeds through its three acts, set successively in the Eisenstein mansion, Prince Orlovsky's country estate, and the town gaol.

This touring production, performed in English, is traditionally staged, with full sets and splendid costumes, by the producers of The Tales of Hoffmann (2007), Iolanthe (2008) and The Yeomen of the Guard (2009). Direction is by David Skinner, and the cast of 43 singers is supported by an orchestra of 31 players conducted by musical director Hugh McMillan.

CMNZ presents Piers Lane and the Doric String Quartet

Piers Lane and the Doric String Quartet
Presented in association with Royal Over-Seas League

Piers Lane (piano)
Alex Redington (violin)
Jonathan Stone (violin)
Simon Tandree (viola)
John Myerscough (cello)

"I thoroughly enjoyed my last collaboration with the Doric String Quartet and am looking forward hugely to this one. Despite their youth, they have experience and maturity aplenty, allied with intelligence, subtlety and a powerful urge to communicate."
Piers Lane

"It was a great thrill and privilege to work with Piers last year. To play with someone of his experience, knowledge and powerful musicality was very inspiring. We are very excited about working with him again particularly on two cornerstones of the piano quintet repertory."
Doric String Quartet

"No praise could be high enough for Piers Lane whose playing throughout is of a superb musical intelligence, sensitivity, and scintillating brilliance."
Gramophone

London-based Australian pianist Piers Lane has a flourishing international career which has taken him to more than forty countries. He is in great demand as a chamber music collaborator, and in 2007 was appointed Artistic Director of the Australian Festival of Chamber Music, held annually in Townsville. In their twelve years together, the prize-winning UK-based Doric String Quartet have successfully forged a career path that places them in highly acclaimed chamber music events and series around the world, and working in collaboration with world-class artists. Ireland's most popular 'easy listening' singer, DANIEL O'DONNELL returns to New Zealand in September.
Daniel has enjoyed tour and chart success in New Zealand for over two decades which has earned him a loyal following all around the country.
A native of Kinscasslagh, Co. Donegal in Ireland, Daniel took his first tentative steps into the musical spotlight as a member of the local church choir singing at social events in his parish hall in 1985.
Daniel's incredible rise to the top began when he signed his first record contract in 1986 although major success didn't come until 1987 with his second album "I Need You" entered the UK country Album charts. It set a precedent that has seen every album that followed entering these charts with most of them debuting at No 1.
Even more impressive has been Daniel's performances in the national pop charts. He made his debut in 1988 with "From The Heart", which although it only achieved a placing at No. 56, won the Country Album of The year at the Music Week Awards. It began a pattern of chart entries and higher positions with each release leading to his greatest chart success in 2003 when "Daniel In Blue Jeans" reached No. 3. By 2005 Daniel had achieved 19 single and 22 album UK pop chart successes. He has now sold over 5 million albums and 2 million DVDs.
Daniel's concert appearances since have taken him from London's Royal Albert Hall and Dublin's Point Depot to New York's Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House, but he still continues to set himself fresh ambitions and new worlds to conquer.

THE UKULELE ORCHESTRA OF GREAT BRITAIN

"Plucking brilliant!" - Sunday Times
"Wonderfully clever."- David Bowie
"Absolutely the Best of British." - Monty Python's Michael Palin

Back in NZ after sell-out 2008 tour
Fans mob them in Japan. They've played at Ronnie Scott's, the Royal Albert Hall at the BBC Proms, The Royal Festival Hall and Glastonbury. Where ever this twanging, singing, awesome, foot-stomping band of ukulele players turns up, they fill up theatres and sing, strum and pluck their way into the cockles of your heart.

A complete sell-out hit at their first New Zealand appearance at the 2008 NZ International Arts Festival in Wellington, the Ukes are back for a full national tour!

A concert by the Ukulele Orchestra is a funny, virtuosic, twanging, awesome, foot-stomping obituary of rock-n-roll and melodious light entertainment featuring only the "bonsai guitar" and a menagerie of voices. Audiences have a good time with the Ukulele Orchestra. Going from Tchaikovsky to Nirvana via Otis Redding and Spaghetti Western soundtracks, the Orchestra takes us on "a world tour with only hand luggage" and gives the listener "One Plucking Thing After Another".

Scoring one of the fastest ever sell-outs in BBC Proms history filling all 7,000 seats at London's Royal Albert Hall, The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain tour of New Zealand will be a hot ticket this spring.

P.S.Do you play the Ukulele? Join the orchestra for a play-along song and download the score from www.ukuleleorchestra.co.nz
