Antiques Rogue Show

The boys are back !!!! Due to an overwhelming response, demand and down right pleading the team that brought you Geezers and the record breaking Antiques Road Show tour of 07, head back on the road ! In the tradition of the venerable BBC Classic "Antiques Road Show" Patrick Duffy and his equally antiquated side kick once again showcase their artistic and sensitive sides. Audience goers are invited into the genteel world of stately manors, country fetes, and local women's institutes as they bring along their valuable family antiques and treasured heirlooms…or the awful Toby mug they got from cousin Raelene for their wedding and haven't the heart to throw out. Under the guise of British antique experts and with the help of the antique's current owner, will unfold the mystery and intrigue of the selected piece in a way that has no particular relevance to real history, artistic appreciation or any worthwhile knowledge whatsoever. The information gathered, mixed with the imagination of two of New Zealand's greatest improvisers is used to create a theatrical and comedic improvised world in which we see the antique's history brought to life. We promise that though the history, knowledge and valuations would be completely bogus the comedy would be 100% genuine.

2010 New Zealand Youth Jazz Orchestra in Concert

For the fourth successive year the New Zealand Youth Jazz Orchestra will perform in concert at the Expressions Arts and Entertainment Centre. This concert will be the first in a short North Island concert tour being undertaken by the orchestra. Selected by audition New Zealand wide, this exceptionally talented group of musicians including vocalists represents the best of New Zealand's young jazz musicians. The orchestra's programme will feature a wide selection of big band jazz material in traditional and contemporary styles . As demonstrated in past years, the concert promises to be a great evening's entertainment for the whole family . This year the orchestra will be under the musical direction of internationally renowned American jazz drummer, percussionist, clinician, author, and educator, Steve Houghton. Steve initially received acclaim at age twenty as the drummer with Woody Herman's Young Thundering Herd. Since then he has shared stage and studio with luminaries Gary Burton, Clay Jenkins, Shelley Berg, Toots Thielemans, Christian Mc Bride, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Freddy Hubbard, Lyle Mays, Billy Childs, Rosemary Clooney, Peggy Lee, Arturo Sandoval, Joe Henderson, Karrin Allyson and Maureen Mc Govern . Steve is currently Professor of Percussion and jazz at Indiana University. Despite the youthful nature of these musicians previous overseas musical directors have always rated them highly and the equal if not better than their contemporaries in the United States, the home of jazz. Over the years the NZYJO has produced a significant number of New Zealand's leading jazz musicians. Come and enjoy a wonderful evening of jazz.
