Manukau Symphony Orchestra - DVORAK

Conductor Uwe Grodd and Manukau Symphony Orchestra welcome internationally acclaimed Viennese Cellist, Martin Rummel, to perform - with all the splendour of this glorious instrument - Dvorak's mightly Cello Concerto in B minor, Op. 104.

The first half of this concert features three musical works that tell very picturesque stories: Smetana's Moldau, about the journey of a great river, Debussy's Prelude a l'apres-midi d'un faune, about a cheek mythical faun in the forest playing his magical panpipes, and Duka's Sorcerer's Apprentice, about a broom that goes wild!

From two tiny bubbling springs, Smetana's Modau flows through the Bohemian mountainside, to wend its way past farmlands, hunting parties and weddings to dancing water nymphs; through rocks ang gullies to emerge triumphantly - calm and majestic - at the city of Prague.
