The Importance of Being Earnest

The weather gods do not look to be on our side so TONIGHT'S performance of The Importance of Being Earnest is sadly CANCELLED.

After 2 stunning Shakespeare Seasons at Te Puna Quarry Twice as Good Productions brings another evening of hilarious comedy, fine food from Lemongrass Catering and award winning wines in the beautiful setting outdoor setting of The Elms in Tauranga.

Oscar Wilde's most brilliant comedy of manners that has delighted millions in countless productions since its first performance in London in 1895. The Importance of Being Earnest is celebrated not only for the lighthearted ingenuity of its plot, but for its inspired dialogue.

John Worthing is the inventor of a fictitious brother, "Ernest," whose wicked ways afford John an excuse to leave his country home from time to time and journey to London where he takes on the guise of Ernest. His friend Algernon has a cousin Gwendolen with whom John is in love.

Returning to the country estate where he lives with his ward Cecily and her governess Miss Prism, John finds that Algernon has also arrived pretending to be the nonexistent brother Ernest. Algernon is smitten with the beautiful Cecily. Both ladies insist they could only marry someone with the name of Earnest... and thus it all starts to unravel!
