Anatoly Zelinsky & Louisa Pilkington - Viola & Voice

Anatoly Zelinsky (viola) and Louisa Pilkington (mezzo soprano) will perform at NCMA as part of our lunchtime concert series.

The programme features music by J.S. Bach, A. Zelinsky and Petr Eben.

Born in Russia, Ukrainian by origin, Anatoly Zelinsky studied at the Moscow Conservatory (1964-67) and the Kiev Academy of Music (1967- 70).

He has played Principal Voila in the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra in Norway and the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra.

In 2000, Anatoly immigrated to New Zealand and now lives in Christchurch.

From 2000 -2007 he performed in the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra as the Principal Viola and took part in numerous recitals.

Anatoly combines music performance with intensive teaching/tutoring practice. For 25 years he has taken the leading position as a violin/viola performance tutor at the Kiev State College of Music, Kiev, Ukraine and from 2002 has been an Affiliate Examiner for Trinity College London.

Louisa Pilkington is a mezzo soprano who is a regular soloist and chorister with CBS Music in Christchurch. With a particular love for sacred music, she includes Handel's Messiah, Bach's St John Passion and B Minor Mass, Mozart's C Minor Mass and Pergolesi's Stabat Mater in her repertoire. Within the secular repertoire, the 'Loveless Songs' of Peter Eben are a particular favourite. Louisa is a past member of the Nelson Civic Choir and the Nelson Combined Choirs.
