Paul Mitchell & Flavio Villani: Piano & Cello Recital

Paul Mitchell (cello) and Flavio Villani (piano) will perform a rich and varied programme of music for cello and piano in the Nelson School of Music Auditorium in this special afternoon concert.

Flavio Villani is an Italian-born New Zealand citizen living in Auckland. He completed a Bachelor of Piano Performance with Matteo Napoli at the Conservatory 'G.Martucci'. He moved to New Zealand in 2008 to follow his dream and in 2012 completed a Master in Piano Performance at the University of Auckland with first class honours under the guidance of pianist Stephen De Pledge.

He has performed many recitals as a soloist as well as in different chamber formations in California, Italy, Spain and New Zealand. The festivals where he performed include: the Venice Biennale (2011) for the exhibition and installation of the New Zealand pavilion, 'Lamezia Festival' in Calabria and 'Pianino Festival' in the Chopin cell in Mallorca.

Paul Mitchell studied cello at The University of Auckland under Coral Bognuda, later winning an Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music Scholarship. Three years of advanced study at the Royal College of Music followed, with Professors Christopher Bunting, William Pleeth and the Chilingirian String Quartet.

Paul has lived and worked in Spain where he held positions with the Balearic Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestra of Cordoba.

Since returning home he as worked with Orchestra Wellington, Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia and the NZSO.
