Modern Maori Quartet

AN EVENING WITH THE MODERN MAORI QUARTET (FEAT. TAINUI KURU) AND SPECIAL GUEST ARTIST TROY KINGI
Modern Maori Quartet (MMQ) are an award-winning, good looking, suave contemporary Maori showband in the vein of forebears such as the Hi-Marks, Maori Volcanics Showband, Dalvanius and the Fascinations, Maori Troubadours, Maori Hi Five, Quin Tikis and The Howard Morrison Quartet.
MMQ's accomplished artists hail from different corners of Aotearoa (New Zealand) to bring the concept of a "Maori Ratpack" into the present, weaving acting and musical talent together to croon their unique takes on Maori showband hits, Kiwi classics and original music.
MMQ is especially excited to be featuring Ashburton local success story Tainui Kuru in the lineup for their first concert in Ashburton, alongside MMQ founding members Maaka Pohatu and Matariki Whatarau, as well as MMQ alternate member Jamie McCaskill, also founder of The Maori Side Steps.
MMQ aspires to be one of Aotearoa's global cultural ambassadors, representing the revival of a proud heritage of world-class Maori showband entertainment. At the core of it all, MMQ are a classy celebration of the entertainment legends of Maoridom; hearty Maori entertainment that will warm your heart and make you cry with laughter.
With hearty voices in epic harmony, MMQ invites you to a party like no other: a mix of off-beat comedy, stage routines, distinctively Maori waiata (song), dance and traditions, heaps of aroha (love) and uniquely Kiwi stories - all with signature tongue-in-cheek Maori humour, charm and charisma.

TROY KINGI
Funkadelic Maori soul superstar Troy Kingi is an actor and musician from Northland. Troy initially made a name for himself as an actor, with brilliant roles in films including Hunt for the Wilderpeople, in which he played 'selfie dad'. Beyond acting, Troy is one of the most exciting Maori musicians today, and plans to release ten albums across ten genres.
