The Chills: The Triumph & Tragedy of Martin Phillipps - New Zealand Premiere

Madman Entertainment, Notable Pictures, the NZ Music Commission and the New Zealand Film Commission welcome you to the New Zealand premiere of The Chills: The Triumph & Tragedy of Martin Phillipps.

Fresh from critical acclaim at its world premiere at SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas and to celebrate the launch of New Zealand Music Month, join the band, cast and crew for an incredible evening celebrating the story of one of New Zealand music's most celebrated characters.

Walk the red carpet, mingle with the cast and crew and enjoy a special musical performance before being one of the first in New Zealand to see the film that Dominic Corry from FLICKS.CO.NZ described as "An emotive and insightful journey into the mind of a truly singular talent' and ROLLING STONE said 'This is what a living legend looks and sounds like'.

KEY TIMINGS:
6:30PM - Red Carpet
7:30PM - Special Musical Performance followed by the screening of the film
9:30PM - Film finishes. The film will be followed by a Q&A with Martin Phillips and director Julia Parnell. This will be moderated by Richard Langston.

Martin Phillipps came tantalizingly close to conquering the international musical world with his band The Chills, but instead fell into decades of debt and addiction in his hometown, Dunedin. At 54, he's been given a dire medical prognosis, forcing him to face his demons and realise his musical ambitions before it's too late.

This intimate portrait follows the eccentric Martin as he reconciles a lifetime's worth of curious collections and looks back on a catalogue of heavenly pop hits. With a startling sense of humour even in the blackest moments, we bear witness to one man's universal battle with the fear of failure and the jarring reality of his own mortality.
