Chamber Music New Zealand Concert Season 2013

The Chamber Music New Zealand Kaleidoscopes Concert Season 2013 opens with something new. International superstars Kronos Quartet have redefined the genre and continue to forge a new identity for string quartets in the 21st century. Alongside them new ensemble Galvanised is on tour, featuring pianist Diedre Irons, offering a fresh voice and colourful repertoire. Beethoven reCYCLE features Michael Houstoun performing all the Beethoven piano sonatas in three parts, spread across the country and across the year. If you haven’t experienced immersing yourself in the genius of these great works, here’s your opportunity. New works also feature prominently in the season including Kiwi composers Ross Harris, Claire Cowan, Gareth Farr and Samuel Holloway alongside Ellen Taaffe Zwilich, Valentin Silvestrov and Bright Sheng. Showcasing this is the intriguing juxtaposition of OLD WORLD : NEW WORLD of NZTrio’s national tour in May. Chamber Music NZ combines forces with the Royal Society of New Zealand to present Einstein’s Universe in July. And later in the year, the award-winning combination of pianist Piers Lane and the Goldner String Quartet tour to all ten centres with two of the mightiest works in the genre by Elgar and Franck.
